AVID is a national college preporatory program. This program focuses on embedding habits for success in school, career, and life.
What are the successful habits AVID focuses on?
AVID develops organizational skills through the use of a daily agenda for ALL classes, the use of an organized binder for ALL classes, and teaches a strategic note-takings system for use in ALL classes. In the AVID class, students focus on career and college exploration, ACT and SAT preparation as well as "soft skills" such as intrapersonal relationships, etiquette, presentation of self, and critical thinking skills.
Who is a potential candidate for the AVID Program?
The AVID program is looking for students who posess grit! The AVID program builds upon a student's inner desire to achieve specified goals. Students who carry a 3.0 GPA or above, who wish to extend their education beyond high school through a vocational program, community college, or four year univiersity, are all candidates for this program.
How do I get into the AVID Program?
The process for getting into this program is:
1. Complete the required application and essay.
2. Turn in the application and essay to your guidance counselor or directly to the JHS office.
3. You will be contacted for an interview.
4. After your interview, you will receive a letter letting you know if you have been accepted into the program.
What do I have to do to stay in the AVID Program?
1. Maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher
2. Maintain good citizenship
3. Adhere to the OCS attendance policy
4. Take a combination of Honors, IB, and dual enrollment courses during your high school career
5. Perform community service hours
6. Be active in clubs or acitivites at school or in your community
